“A Jazzy June!”: Come Celebrate African-American Music Appreciation Month at Carlyle House!

June is African-American Music Appreciation month, and Carlyle House and Alexandria’s Black History Museum will be co-hosting talented local artists to celebrate the roots of this music! Join us for our second concert on the Magnolia Terrace in the gardens of Carlyle House for “A Jazzy June!” on Thursday, June 18th from 6-8pm. The event is weather protected.

DuPont Brass, a local group from Howard University, will perform on Thursday, June 18thThis energetic and youthful group is self-described as “a new, innovative brass band hailing from the DC Metropolitan Area.” DuPont Brass has grown to nine members and has gained popularity from playing at local Metro stations and performed throughout the city as a featured group with the acclaimed DC Jazz Festival. Overall, the mission of the band is to “uplift the spirits of people with their music…not just in the DMV area, but the entire world.” The concert on the 18thtakes place on the eve of “Juneteenth,” one of the oldest celebrations commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Each year, Juneteenth is celebrated across the country by communities who commemorate this historic moment of freedom through food, music, and dance. Carlyle House and the Alexandria Black History Museum are proud to continue this tradition through this event.

This event is co-sponsored by Carlyle House (NOVA Parks) and Alexandria’s Black History Museum (Office of Historic Alexandria). Carlyle House is accessible by riding the FREE Trolley running every 15 minutes from the King Street Metro Station, and is centrally located near several parking garages. Located at 121 N.
