Virginia was deemed the fourth best state in the union to make a living.  Virginia moved up 3 spots from last year’s list.  Job growth in Alexandria and the Northern Virgina area undoubtedly was a factor in making Virginia one of the top states.

MoneyRates conduct the survey every year of the best and worst states to make a living.  The factors they use in determining the best and worst are:

  1. Average wages.
  2. State tax rates. 
  3. Cost of living.
  4. The unemployment rate. 
  5. Incidents of workplace illness, injuries and fatalities.

Texas took over the top spot as the best place in the country to make a living.  Hawaii was the worst.
