Alexandria Symphony Orchestra Performs for Alexandria Birthday Celebration

ASO Gives the Gift of Music to the Community

Alexandria, VAAlexandria Symphony Orchestra (ASO) will present a free concert themed “Heroes and Superheroes” as part of the 266th Alexandria Birthday Celebration on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 8:30 PM.  The celebration, sponsored by the city and coordinated by the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities, begins at 6:30 PM and culminates with fireworks at 9:30 PM, underscored by additional music from the orchestra.

“The Alexandria Symphony Orchestra has been honored to be a part of Alexandria’s rich history for more than 72 years, and we’ve proudly participated in the celebration for many years,” comments ASO’s Maestro Kim Allen Kluge.  “This concert is our birthday gift to the community.”

The concert will include family-friendly film score excerpts such as Star WarsThe Dark Knight and Harry Potter as well as patriotic tunes and highlights from the ASO’s upcoming 2015-2016 Season, Circle Unbroken: Symphony & Cinema, which opens October 3.  Each concert will feature one film composer and explore his classical roots with music that greatly influenced him.

As ASO partners in the celebration, the symphony thanks its sponsors, Wells Fargo and Global Printing, for their support.  ASO also recognizes its restaurant partner Overwood Wood-Fired American Kitchen for donating a portion of its sales from its ABC sandwich boxes to benefit the ASO.

The Alexandria Birthday Celebration is free and open to the public in Oronoco Bay Park, 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM on July 11, 2015.  Tickets for the ASO’s 72nd season: CIRCLE UNBROKEN: Symphony & Cinema are now on sale.  To purchase tickets and for more information, visit www.alexsym.org or call 703-548-0885.
