The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today (July 20, 2015) for Alexandria and surrounding areas. Heat index values will be up to 109 degrees with temperatures in the upper 90s and dew points in the lower to mid 70s.
An code orange air quality alert has been issued by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments in association with Maryland Department of the Environment, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, and District Department of Environment for Alexandria and surrounding areas for Monday, July 20, 2015.
A code orange alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children, people suffering from asthma, heart disease, other lung diseases, and the the elderly.
