Farmers’ Market Survey – Help us serve you better!
Get your voice heard! The Old Town Farmers’ Market is conducting our annual customer satisfaction survey.  This survey will help market staff with recruiting resident and guest vendors, planning market events, and identifying growth opportunities.  It is anonymous and only takes about five minutes to complete.  Click on this link and give us your feedback.

National Farmers’ Market Week – August 2 – 8th!
Celebrate National Farmers Market Week this year from August 2-8 with us!  It is amazing when markets and farmers get the recognition they deserve for being important outlets for small farms, drivers of the local and regional food systems, and, of course, a great place for customers to stock up on peaches, tomatoes and their other favorite fruits and veggies!  You can read more about why Secretary of Agriculture Vilsack thinks farmers’ markets are so great here.  For a calendar of Market events, click here.

Bigg Riggs Tweets during National Farmers’ Market Week!
The Old Town Farmers Market will be celebrating the lead up to National Farmers Market Week by letting our very own Calvin Riggleman from Bigg Riggs Farm take over our Twitter account!  Calvin will be posting about his farm and market experiences throughout the week so we can see exactly what it takes for our dedicated farmers to make the magic happen on Saturdays.  If you don’t already follow us on Twitter, you can find us @OldTownMktAlex.

Tomato, Corn, Avocado Salad
There is more to farmers’ markets than just food!  At the Old Town Farmers’ Market, we host the VCE’s Master Gardeners who help residents with lawn, flower and pest problems; the amazing Compost Alex team who take your table scraps and turn them into nutrient-packed compost; and the Transit Store, where you can pick up SmartTrip cards, VRE tickets, and more to save you from sitting in beltway traffic.  We also host bike clinics if you opt for a two-wheeled commute!  Check out the hashtag #MoreToMarket on Twitter and Instagram to see what other farmers’ markets are doing to respond to the needs in their communities.

Market Events – Yoga at the Market this Saturday
Radiance Yoga will host an open flow yoga class this Saturday from 8:15 – 9:00am on the market stage.  Bring your mat, towel and water, and drop by Senzu Juicery when you’re done for a nice light breakfast.  Or, if you’re craving something more substantial, a breakfast sausage biscuit from Ole’ Pioneer’s Kitchen!

News Release – Increased Incentives for SNAP Customers!
The Old Town Farmers Market is doubling its incentive to SNAP customers starting Aug 1st with new funding from Wholesome Wave and the USDA!  SNAP customers will now receive $20 in bonus dollars for every $20 they spend at the Market.  Read more here.
