Celebrate National Farmers Market Week with Us – Aug 2nd to 8th!

We’re so excited to have an amazing celebration in honor of National Farmers Market Week this Saturday!  The lineup is:

7:00am–Noon: Fill out our onsite customer satisfaction survey and get an Old Town Farmers Market tote bag or water bottle!  Look for the small table in front of the stage with a red & white checkered tablecloth.

7:00am–Noon:  Social Media give away.  On Saturday, just check in at market on Facebook, tag us in a post, or @ us on Twitter and come by the information booth to pick up a free Buy Fresh Buy Local tote bag from our friends at INOVA.

9:00am–Noon: Kid’s Play Area sponsored by Sylvan Alexandria.  Pick up a fun “I Love Farmers Markets” temporary tattoos from the Farmers Market Coalition–show your local food pride!

10:00am–Noon: Chef Demo from Carluccio’s!  Watch these culinary pros whip up amazing treats from local ingredients picked up at market.

Market to Table Recipe – Watermelon Popsicles
Did you know that Monday, August 3rd was National Watermelon Day?  Celebrate this fruit in its delectable frozen form by making Watermelon Popsicles.  These popsicles are a healthy kid’s treat with very little added sugar and they help beat the heat as we get into the dog days of summer!

Looking for a Public Pool?  Don’t use the Market Fountain!
We know that the fountain on market square looks so refreshing and tempting for quick dip when the sun is beating down—but please remember that it’s off limits for swimming or splashing!  The water in this fountain is unfiltered, recycled water and the foundation has sharp metal grates that are dangerous.  If you are looking for a swim in Alexandria, check out these Public Pools instead!

News Release  Increased Incentives for SNAP Customers!
The Old Town Farmers Market is doubling its incentive to SNAP customers with new funding from Wholesome Wave and the USDA!  SNAP customers now receive $20 in bonus dollars for every $20 they spend at the Market!  Read more here.
