Major Changes to DASH Schedule

On Sunday, August 9, 2015, DASH will implement schedule changes to the routes AT1, AT5, AT7, and the King Street Trolley.

Splash with DASH

DASH, in partnership with the Advocates for Alexandria Aquatics (AAA), and the City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities (RPCA), have announced a new Splash with DASH initiative to get families and children to the Old Town Pool this summer.  Approximately a dozen local businesses, along with the support of the USA Swimming Foundation – Make a Splash, are sponsoring free rides during July and August on DASH’s AT10 route, which provides service between Potomac Yard and the King Street Metro, via the neighborhoods of Arlandria, Warwick Village, Del Ray, and Rosemont.

Student Summer DASH Pass!

Attention Alexandria middle and high school students! The Student Summer DASH Pass is back, and available on a SmarTrip Card! Simply tap the purchased SmarTrip Card and hop on board! Hurry now and purchase your pass for only $65!

Alexandria middle and high school students can purchase the Student Summer DASH Pass and use it for unlimited rides on all DASH buses from May 1 thru August 31, 2015.

Passes can be purchased at DASH’s main office located on 3000 Business Center Drive.  TC William students can purchase them from the school Treasurer in the main office.

Bike Ped

Ad Hoc Pedestrian & Bicycle Master Plan Advisory 

The Ad Hoc Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan Advisory Committee will hold its eighth meeting on Wednesday, August 12 from 7 to 9 p.m.  This meeting will be held at City Hall, Room 1101 (Sister Cities, 1st Floor), 301 King Street. This meeting will focus on the draft pedestrian and bicycle strategies to be included in the Master Plan update.

The update of the Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan will include an evaluation of existing conditions, issues, constraints and needs, as well as a review of existing policies, goals and objectives.

Get paid to carpool. NuRide is an online ridesharing community where you can find friends, neighbors and coworkers going your way, share a ride whenever you like, and earn points that get you free rewards from national and local retailers.

Have you tried Metroway?

Now almost a year old, the City’s premium bus service has been a popular choice of transportation for people travelingthe Crystal City – Potomac Yard – Braddock East Corridor.

Metrowaybuses operate on dedicated bus only lanes between E Glebe and Potomac Ave and come about every six minutes during weekday am and pm peak periods , every 12 minutes during the midday, and every 15 minutes in the evening. Weekend buses run every 20 minutes and all can accommodate bicycles.

Not too long ago Real-time bus arrival displays were installed at seven Metrowaystations along US Route 1.  Passengers can now see how many minutes it will be before the next Metroway bus or Metrobus arrives at their Transitway station in Potomac Yard.

Construction Underway on Walking and Bicycling Improvements

As part of the City’s Complete Streets and Street Resurfacing programs, safety improvements will be made at several locations in Alexandria this summer. The improvements include crosswalk enhancements, pedestrian and bicycle improvements, and adjustments to parking restrictions to provide additional parking along Stevenson Avenue and its intersection with Yoakum Parkway.

New crosswalks, accessibility improvements, and bike lanes will be installed on North Hampton Drive between King Street and Braddock Road, and additional pedestrian and bicycle improvements will be installed on Monroe Avenue between Stonewall Road and Leslie Avenue.  During project construction, lane closures, sidewalk closures and temporary parking restrictions may occur.
