Seasonal Produce–School Snacks Week 2:  Zucchini Bread
Nothing says summer quite like zucchini and what better way to eat this abundant summer vegetable than baked into a delicious bread loaf?  This low sugar zucchini bread is great with breakfast or as a snack and can be a sneaky way to get in an extra serving of vegetables for your little ones.  Experiment with the amount of zucchini to make it even healthier; you can also substitute walnuts for chocolate chips to cut down on sugar.

Market Events – Bike for Good: Bicycle Food Rescue
Come join us this Saturday for our 3rd bicycle food rescue at the market!  We bicycle donated fresh produce from the market to a low-income senior apartment.  Click here to read AARP’s story about how we pedal fresh food from the market to the Annie B. Rose Home!  Interested in volunteering for this fun event?  Email BikeforGood@alexandriava.gov.

T&ES at Market for Combined Sewer System Plan Outreach
After a rain, runoff from the street, lawn, driveway, and rooftops makes its way into the City’s stormwater system and, eventually, into the Chesapeake Bay.  T&ES’ Stormwater and Sanitary Division will be at market this Saturday to discuss the updated Plan for the combined sewer system.  Proper upstream control and treatment of pollutants in runoff water means less contamination in the Bay—good for wildlife, marine life, and our Virginia watermen!  Learn more about the Longterm Control Plan by clicking here.  Find out how polluted runoff affects the Chesapeake Bay here.
