The Gadsby’s Tavern Museum Society (GTMS) is sponsoring a night at the Little Theatre of Alexandria on December 9 for a new production of the family-friendly holiday classic – The Christmas Carol. GTMS will once again host a Christmas Goodies and Savories Reception with appropriate beverages for all ages at the theater starting at 6:30pm. The 75-minute, no intermission performance will begin at 8pm. During the reception, there will be an opportunity for pictures with Father Christmas – as George Washington would have known this icon of the season. Bring your cameras and smart phones! The 2015 Historic Alexandria Holiday Ornament is now available! This year showcases Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site. Fort Ward offers an excellent introduction to the Civil War Defenses of Washington through exhibits, programs, and the preserved Union fort which features the authentically reconstructed Northwest bastion. The ornament can be purchased at all of the OHA Museum Shops, the Historic Alexandria Shop in the Hilton, or online.

As this year comes to a close, the staff at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum are looking forward to a fresh start in the coming year!  We survived Fire + Ice 2015 but are ready to flip the calendar to 2016.  Consider an end-of-the-year donation so help us start the year right and not cold + charred.

The New Year is just around the corner and with it brings the national premier of Mercy Street – the newest PBS drama inspired by true stories of Civil War Alexandria and the Mansion House Hotel, which was transformed into a Union Army Hospital.  Don’t miss the Museum’s programming that will be sure to excite the show’s fans – the Civil War Ball January 23 and the Civil War Wine Dinner with Grey Ghost Vineyards on January 29.
