Old Town — A Magical Christmas Town

It’s no surprise Alexandria would be on HGTV as one of America’s top Christmas Towns. (HGTV’s Top Ten Christmas Towns with Christmas festivities Coast to Coast). Also, no surprise we are on the Virginia is for Lovers blog as one of Virginia’s Favorite Christmas Towns.

I always start to feel the holiday season in Old Town when I see the lights adorning King Street. Then I feel Christmas once the tree in Market Square is lit and our tree is up at home. I unpack the Christmas decorations which includes Fefe’s tiny little Christmas dress (Fefe is our 3 pound Yorkie). Christmas is in the air! Neighbors and their pups head to Old Town School for Dogs for photos with Santa. Everything is magical! But when I really start to feel the emotion of Christmas is when I hear bagpipes serenading Old Town during the Scottish Walk.

For those that do not know, the Scottish Walk is Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia’s annual Christmas Time Parade. It happens on the first Saturday of every December. Our historic, colonial, brick lined, novel-like town is transported to the majesty of the Christmas and the holiday season. You see people you know. Everyone’s happy. Neighbors throw parties. Friends gather at local spots. Folks toast to the magic of the season. And come sunset our charming port city plays host to a magical boat parade of lights. Yes, I’d say our Old Town is indeed a wonderful Christmas town.
