ASO’s Family Holiday Concert Swings at St. Paul’s
Musicians from the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra Spread Holiday Cheer

Alexandria, VA—Looking for a family event after you’ve finished all that holiday shopping?  Look no further.  Under the direction of Maestro Kim Allen Kluge, the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra presents its annual Family Holiday Concert this year on Sunday, December 20 at 3:00 PM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Old Town Alexandria.

Co-chaired by Alexandria residents Carolyn Fuller and Anne Reed, this year’s festivities include the usual holiday carols with a bit of a twist.  A jazz ensemble, hand-picked from ASO musicians, will swing Big Band arrangements of Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker Suite, excerpts from A Charlie Brown Christmas (celebrating its 50th anniversary), and jazzy holiday carols for sing-along.  “We’re so excited to partner again with St. Paul’s for this community event,” exclaims co-chair Carolyn Fuller.  “It has a little something for everyone, whether you’re three or 103,” noted co-chair Anne Reed.

Maestro Kluge invites the audience to sing-along during the program and to join the percussion section for one number.  (It’s a surprise!)  After the program, attendees will enjoy a holiday reception in adjacent Norton Hall, complete with sweets, hot chocolate as well as visits and photos with Santa.  Spoiler alert: Santa might drop in during the concert.

In partnership with area charities, patrons may purchase and contribute Family Holiday Concert tickets to the students of ASO Sympatico (our free music education program at John Adams Elementary), Alexandria Head Start or Campagna Kids.  Alexandria Symphony Orchestra is proud to offer this community outreach to the next generation of musicians and music-lovers.

The Family Holiday Concert is a charitable event; all tickets purchased are 100% tax-deductible and benefit the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra.  Corporate and individual sponsorships for this event start at $250 and include special recognition and preferred seating.  Adult tickets are $20; youth tickets (18 and under) are $5.  To purchase tickets and for more information, visit www.alexsym.org or call 703-548-0885.
