Why Not? Children’s Store Closing | Fireman Mike | Old Town Post

While walking around Old Town Alexandria on a Saturday night, it was a shock to see signs in the Why Not? children’s store announcing the stores closing.  The store has been an iconic symbol at the corner of S. Lee and King street for 53 years.

Toddlers are attracted to the store like a moth to a flame.  Countless times parents and grandparents alike have literally been pulled into the store by their rambunctious child.

Once inside the store adults can only smile at the excitement and joy on children’s faces.  The owners and employees of the store would always greet children and their chaperones with an exuberant smile and a warm greeting.

The corner of Lee and King will not be the same without WhyNot?

Why Not?’s Facebook page had the following announcement posted yesterday:

Dear friends, old and new, we are very sad to announce that after 53 great years on this beautiful Old Town corner Why Not? is closing its doors and saying goodbye. We will be here through January at least, and would love to see as many of you as possible stop by one last time and say hi. If you have had your heart set on something for a while, or want to stock up on cute, hard-to-find toys for future presents, now is a good time to do it, everything in the store is 30% off (all sales are final and not returnable.) Thank you all for the good times, we will miss you very much! heart emoticon
