The Alexandria Sportsman’s Club hopes that everyone had healthy and meaningful holidays with family and friends. The ASC is very thankful for all your support over the last year, especially the end of year scholarship fundraising challenge which was very successful.
Now, the Sportsman’s Club will kick off 2016 on January 19th with a preview of the National’s spring baseball and upcoming season at our annual “Washington National’s Night.” We are honored that the National’s have made Mark Scialabba, Director of Player Development, available to speak at our January meeting. Mark has risen through the ranks of Mark Rizzo’s front office team beginning in 2006. He was promoted to the Director of Minor League Operations in 2009 before assuming his current role beginning in 2013. He works on all aspects of Washington’s player development operation, including contracts, roster management, budgets and player personnel decisions. Visit the ASC website to learn more about Mark Scialabba.
We understand that Winter Sports are now kicking into high gear. Notwithstanding, this is the perfect opportunity for all our area baseball players and athletes to hear from a veteran on player development … what it takes to succeed in the “big time” and get a preview of the National’s upcoming season prior to the Team heading to Florida for Spring Training.
Everyone is welcome upstairs at the Old Dominion Boat Club on 1 King Street! A complimentary reception will begin at 6:30PM and is sponsored by Sean Johnson of Movement Mortgage in Fairfax. Recognition of outstanding winter sport performances will begin at 7:15PM followed by Mark Scialabba’s preview of the National’s baseball season. Light dinner will be provided by the Primo Family Restaurant, a Bellview tradition for over 25 years!
Don’t miss this January 19th event. Look forward to seeing you.

Alexandria Sportsman’s Club
The Alexandria Sportsman’s Club, founded in 1947, is a non-profit and civic organization. Our sole purposes are to support local high school athletics and to recognize the achievements of our young athletes on the field and in the classroom. The sportsman’s club membership meets at the Old Dominion Boat Club on the third Tuesday of each month, where we gather in the fellowship of others with a shared interest in promoting competitive and recreational youth activities in Alexandria. We also present an Athlete of the Month Award recognizing a student-athlete selected from one of our four high schools. At each meeting a prominent speaker is featured. All meetings also feature drinks and snacks provided by the Sportsman’s Club, as well as a community dinner following the award presentation and the speaker. Please join us in helping to recognize and support our community’s youth athletes!
