Mercy Street is the PBS Civil War drama set in our own Old Town, Alexandria, Va. The show chronicles life connected with Mansion House Hospital in Union occupied Alexandria, Virginia (interesting Old Town note: Mansion House Hospital is where Carlyle House is located).

The show thrusts viewers right into the chaos of a war-time hospital — it’s doctors, nurses, contraband laborers, slaves, free-men, soldiers, and Southern loyalists converging. As can be expected, we see characters longing for the future and also clinging to the past. And characters in the premiere already seem developed but the agony of war lets them further their depth, be-it for good or villainous maturation as the episodes progress.

If you haven’t caught the Mercy Street fever there is still time before the premiere. If you’re looking for clips, interviews, or general history of Mansion House and Civil War Alexandria be sure to check out Old Town Post’s Mercy Street Pinterest Board where we’ve gathered everything to keep you in the Old Town Mercy Street know!

Mercy Street premieres Sunday, January 17th at 10 o’clock after Downton Abbey.
