As I am sure you are aware, the National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for the entire Washington Metropolitan area, including the City of Alexandria, from 3:00 pm Friday (1/22) through 6:00 am Sunday (1/24). This storm will include high winds and significant snow fall. Due to these hazardous conditions, the City of Alexandria is currently advising residents and visitors to stay off of the roads and any attempt to travel to the Old Town Farmers Market will be extremely hazardous for both vendors and customers. Due to the historic size and scope of this storm and the hazardous conditions associated with it, the Old Town Farmers Market will be CLOSED this Saturday, January 23 for the first time in recent memory. This difficult decision was reached by the City recognizing that the safety of the vendors, citizens, visitors and City staff far outweighs the need to keep the Old Town Farmers Market open.
City staff will not be on-site on Saturday and, as previously stated, vendors, citizens, and visitors are being asked to stay off of the roads. Information will be posted on the City of Alexandrias website alerting customers to the closing. Please: stay inside, stay warm, and stay safe. If you have any questions, please contact the market manager at firstname.lastname@example.org.
