How does Winter Storm Jonas (aka Blizzard 2016, Snowmageddon 2016, Snowzilla) compare to some of the Region’s heaviest snowfall storms?  Jonas needs 14.4 inches of snowfall to crack the top ten and over 28 inches to take over the top spot from the”Knickerbocker Blizzard”.

Official snowfall totals for the area are kept at Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA). Official snowfall records date back to 1884 for DC.  Here is the list of the top 10 heaviest recorded snowfalls for the DC area according to the National Weather Service:

9) 14.4 inches (February 15-16, 1958)

8) 16.4 inches (February 16-18, 2003) “President’s Day II”

6) 16.6 inches (February 10-11, 1983) “Megalopolitan Blizzard”

5) 17.3 inches (January 7-9, 1996) “Blizzard of 1996”

4) 17.8 inches (February 5-6, 2010) “Snowmageddon”

3) 18.7 inches (February 18-19, 1979) “President’s Day I”

2) 20 inches (February 12-14, 1899) “Blizzard of 1899”

1) 28.0 inches (January 27-29, 1922) “Knickerbocker Blizzard”
