Upcoming Housing Training Classes
The City of Alexandria has scheduled two housing training classes for the month of February. The first, Understanding Condominium Living, will be held on February 29 from 7 to 9 pm at the Charles Houston Recreation Center, 901 Wythe Street in Alexandria. This free class provides an overview of condominium ownership, the governance structure of community associations, and the rights and responsibilities related to owning a condo. This training is recommended for owners of condominiums as well as those considering purchasing a condo. On February 27, the City will host a Virginia Housing Development Authority (VHDA) class for first-time homebuyers. This class, scheduled for 10 am to 4 pm at the Charles Houston Recreation Center, 901 Wythe Street in Alexandria, offers training on personal finance and credit reporting, how to prepare for homeownership, and the basics of the homebuying process. Presenters include lenders, real estate agents, home inspectors and housing counselors.
The first-time homebuyer class is offered at no charge to participants. Completion leads to a certificate from VHDA and access to the agency’s below market rate mortgage financing. Registration may now be completed online through the VHDA website.
Coming March 19th – the Northern Virginia Housing Expo!
If you are looking to rent or buy a home or apartment in Northern Virginia, make the Northern VIrginia Housing Expo your first stop. Free and open to the public, its dozens of exhibits and workshops will provide all the information needed to rent an apartment or purchase a first home.
The 6th Annual Northern Virginia Housing Expo will be held on March 19 from 10 am to 3 pm at Freedom High School, 15201 Neabsco Mills Road, in Woodbridge. The Expo is hosted by the AHOME Foundation in cooperation with representatives from the counties of Fairfax, Arlington, Prince William and Loudoun, the cities of Alexandria and Falls Church and the town of Herndon, as well as the Virginia Housing Development Authority.
