Alexandria’s Assistant Fire Chief, Dwayne Bonnette, will take over as the Portsmouth Virginia Fire Chief on March 14, 2016.

Chief Bonnette has been with the Alexandria Fire Department for 27 years.

As the new Chief of the Portsmouth (VA) Fire Rescue and Emergency Services Department, Chief Bonnette will be responsible for 8 fire stations and 255 Firefighters, Paramedics, and support staff, who respond to approximately 17,000 calls for service each year. Portsmouth covers 33 square miles of land and boasts 76 miles of shoreline.
