Get ready this summer for the opening of Vola’s Dockside Grill and Hi-Tide lounge on the waterfront in Old Town Alexandria. The building formerly was home to the Waterfront Market, on 7 King Street which closed it’s doors on November 10, 2015. A restaurant group decided to close the facility and do some remodeling to open a bigger and better venue. See OTP’s previous article “Waterfront Market and Cafe Closed” for more details.
The restaurant will be owned by the Alexandria Restaurant Partners. This group also owns Virtue, The Majestic, Palette 22 in Arlington, Virginia, Café Tu Tu Tango in Orlando, Florida, Dantanna’s: Dantanna’s Surf & Turf, Dantanna’s Downtown, and Dantanna’s Tavern, in Atlanta, Georgia and Lena’s.
Vola’s is named after former City Manager, Vola Lawson. She was named a Living Legend of Alexandria in 2007 and inducted into the Virginia Women’s Hall of Fame in 1993.
The restaurant will serve premier seafood and will feature a raw bar. The Hi-Tide Lounge is still being kept quite secret and will be a hidden getaway.
The waterfront restaurant scene in Old Town Alexandria is about to get a little more crowded in Summer 2016.
