Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Responds to Three-Alarm Structure Fire in Springfield Area

On July 7, at approximately 2:18 p.m., units responded to 7024 Spring Garden Drive for reports of a commercial structure on fire. The structure was a vacant restaurant located in the Brookfield Plaza Shopping Center.

Upon arrival, units observed fire showing from the roof and smoke coming from the front and rear of the restaurant. Firefighters conducted an aggressive attack and the fire was brought under control in approximately 50 minutes. Due to the extent of the fire and extreme heat, three-alarms were sounded bringing over 75 firefighters to the scene. The Arlington County Fire and Rescue Department, Alexandria Fire Department, and Fort Belvoir Fire Department provided mutual aid. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.

The restaurant was not protected by sprinklers. Property loss is estimated at $600,000.

The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
