Townhouse Fire Displaces Three in Alexandria Area

On July 14, at approximately 9:08 p.m., units responded to the 6000 block of Joust Lane in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County for reports of a townhouse on fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke and fire showing from a two-story townhouse. An aggressive attack was conducted and the fire was brought under control in approximately 18 minutes. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.

The house had working smoke alarms that activated after an occupant discovered the fire. Three adults have been displaced. Red Cross is providing assistance. Total property loss is estimated at $93,750.

Investigation revealed that the fire originated on the gas stove top. The fire was caused by a pot containing grease boiling over. The grease ignited upon contact with the burner flame.
