Local Kiwanis Club honors the Chief’s 37 years of service
Alexandria, Va.: The Kiwanis Club of Alexandria has announced that it will bestow its Police Officer of the Year award on Alexandria Police Chief Earl L. Cook. The award is given annually to recognize outstanding or heroic achievement by Alexandria police officers and highlights the sacrifices made daily by the city’s finest. The Kiwanis Club is recognizing Chief Cook for over 37 years’ service to the city, and his outstanding leadership as chief since 2009. Chief Cook will receive the award at a ceremony on September 15, 2016 at the Alexandria Police Department.
“As a lifelong Alexandrian, Chief Cook has dedicated his life to improving the city and making it a better place for everyone,” said Kiwanis vice president Anthony Smith. “We felt choosing Chief Cook for this honor was a great way to highlight his tireless efforts over the past 37 years.” Club secretary William Allison added that Kiwanis is excited to present the award in person at police headquarters. “Bringing the award ceremony to the department gives officers and civilian employees the opportunity to take part in this special event, and gives Chief Cook the recognition he deserves,” he said.
The Kiwanis Club will formally present Chief Cook with the award at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2016. The presentation is open to the public and will take place in the community room of the Alexandria Police Department, 3600 Wheeler Ave, Alexandria, VA 22304.
