Del Ray Bartender Needs Your Help | Fireman Mike | Old Town Post

James Morrison, a long time bartender at Evening Star in the Del Ray section of Alexandria, is battling cancer.  The staff at Evening Star, along with the rest of the Del Ray neighborhood, are doing something to help.  The Evening Star, located at 2000 Mount Vernon Avenue, staff have created a Facebook Event to gather folks at the Evening Stars’ two bars for a benefit for James.  The benefit will be on Monday, September 26, 2016 from 7:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m..  Pass the word along to meet at the Evening Star on Monday evening to help James.

The following is the information from the Evening Star Facebook Event:

We know you have all been wondering where James has been the last 3 months. One of our best friends, longtime Evening Star bartender, and all around great person James Morrison was diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer in May and has been undergoing treatment. He is getting lots of care from his doctors and family, but it’s time to rally the troops!

We regret that you may be finding out about James’s illness for the first time. James was very private about the details initially. We are all struggling, we need each other and most of all James needs you.

We are doing a benefit this coming Monday, September 26 in both bars at the Evening Star. We are hoping to raise him a bunch of money and show our support for him and his family.

We will be doing a silent auction with donations from local business and restaurants in Del Ray and Alexandria. If you own a business or would like to make a donation to the silent auction, it would be much appreciated.

The whole bar staff will be there, as well as some guest bartenders, and we will be donating 100% of our tips to James and his family. Let’s make this a huge night for him. Please share this event far and wide! All are welcome!

There is also a GoFundMe page set up for James if you would like to donate.
