Jack’s Place in Old Town Alexandria Sold | Fireman Mike | Old Town Post

Jack Davis has sold Jack’s Place at 222 North Lee Street in Old Town, Alexandria.  Jack’s has been a favorite locals hang out for breakfast and lunch in Alexandria for years.  Jack does it all.  He is the owner, chef, opener, closer, food prep, dishwasher and server of incredibly good breakfast and lunch specialties.  Jack’s is a small restaurant that seats 15 people at the counter and surrounding tables.  The atmosphere and chatter amongst locals is always lively and entertaining.

Jack is an avid sports fan who loves the Denver Broncos and the Washington Nationals.  The walls of Jack’s Place are adorned with sports memorabilia along with many photos of loyal patrons.

Teserendolger Batjargal bought the business as the new lessee of the building.

Jack’s current hours are from 8:00 a.m until 3:00 p.m.. The new owner has proposed operating hours of 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. in their change of ownership special use permit (SUP) filed with Alexandria Planning and Zoning.

The SUP application does not identify any type of name change.  So, it looks like Jack’s Place will live on but without Jack. The new owner has also proposed on premise alcohol sales. There is no plan to change the interior design of the restaurant.

I spoke with Jack yesterday afternoon on the corner of North Lee and Queen adjacent to the Glass Stache.  Of course, we talked about sports and the Game 3 Nationals victory over the Dodgers in the National League Divisional Series.  I asked him about selling his restaurant. He said that the opportunity came up to sell and it was time. Jack stated, “I’ve been looking forward to retirement and I’ll probably spend some time fixing up my house as I didn’t have time before because the business took up most of my time”.

Jack said he will probably be around until about December 1, 2016 but he wasn’t definite.

Stop by Jack’s Place while Jack is still there, grab a coffee, ask him to fix you up one of his great breakfasts or sandwiches and shoot the breeze about sports or whatever else is happening.

Advice if you haven’t been to Jack’s and want to go before he leaves:

  • Bring cash as that is the only acceptable form of payment.
  • Only get one pancake because they are monsters and you can’t eat more than one.
  • Don’t bring in Starbucks or other outside food or drink because Jack doesn’t want it and he will let you know.
  • Be prepared for lively jovial banter
