Join the Old Town Farmers’ Market SNAP/EBT Double Dollar Fundraising Block Party event on Thursday, October 20th, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Hotel Monaco!

Since the City began participating in the SNAP program in April 2013, ~ $9,500 in SNAP/EBT tokens have been sold and over $5,300 in Double Dollar tokens have been matched. During this same period more than 795 SNAP customers have shopped at the Old Town Farmers’ Market and benefitted from being able to buy healthy fruits and vegetables to feed their families.

If Half Sours and Crispy Koshers are your idea of pickle perfection, come to market this weekend and make sure you line up at Number 1 Sons.  This is the end of their Half Sour barrels. Full Sour pickles continue for a few more weeks until their barrel run dryeth.

The Sons also have a new cauliflower ferment for the Fall season which is spicier than Ginger Giardinera! They are trying out new recipes so your feedback is very welcome.

Don’t let the name fool you—winter squash is in season right now and you can find it at all our farm stands.  Winter squash is incredibly flavorful and packed with beta carotene and vitamin C.  Different types of winter squash at market right now are acorn, butternut, delicata, kabocha and spaghetti.  Check out these beauties at Charlotte Hall, Spring Valley, Bigg Riggs, Lopez Farms, Diaz Farms, Montoya Farms, and Dunham’s Farm!
