Cider Tasting Festival at The Lyceum on November 19, 2016

Celebrating Virginia Cider Week

Celebrate Virginia Cider Week (November 11 – 20) in Alexandria with a special tasting festival at The Lyceum, Alexandria’s History Museum on Saturday, November 19 from 7 – 9:30 p.m.  This event is hosted by the Office of Historic Alexandria in partnership with the Alexandria-Caen Sister Cities Committee and includes cider tastings, live music, a tasting glass, and light refreshments.  During the course of the evening, learn more about the growing Virginia cider industry and its connection to Alexandria history and the Caen region of France, all while enjoying ciders from Albemarle, Blue Bee Cider, Bold Rock, Castle Hill, Cobbler Mountain Cellars, Corcoran, Foggy Ridge, Old Hill, Potter’s Craft, Wild Hare, Winchester Cider Works, and the Winery at Kindred Pointe.

Tickets are $50 per person and may be purchased by calling 703.746.4994 or through alexandriava.gov/Shop. Check in at The Lyceum, 201 S. Washington Street beginning at 7 p.m.  Attire for the event is casual.

Other Alexandria events as part of Virginia Cider Week include a lecture and a special tasting passport contest.  On Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 7 p.m., Steven Bashore, Director of Historic Trades at George Washington’s Mount Vernon, will lecture at The Lyceum.  Mr. Bashore will lecture on “Cider in Early America: It’s Origins, Influence, and Practice.”  The lecture will be followed by a dessert and cider reception.  Between November 11 and 19, visit participating restaurants and retail stores to taste and purchase Virginia Cider. A passport can be picked up at the Alexandria Visitor Center, The Lyceum, and participating businesses.  For a complete list of participating sites and details about the passport and contest, please visit alexandriava.gov/Historic.  The winner of the passport contest will receive a $100 gift certificate from the Historic Alexandria Museum Stores.
