by Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department

On Saturday, November 5 at approximately 3:21 p.m., units from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue and the City of Alexandria Fire Department responded to the 5600 block of Clouds Mill Drive in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County for a reported house fire.

Units from Fire Station 5, Franconia, arrived first on scene and reported a significant volume of fire from the rear of a two-story, single-family home. Crews conducted an aggressive exterior and interior attack to extinguish the fire and to prevent the fire from spreading to an adjacent home.

Two adults were home at the time of the fire. The homeowner discovered the fire prior to any smoke alarm activation. All occupants safely evacuated the home prior to fire department arrival.

Fire investigation determined that the fire started in the basement area of the home. The cause of the fire was accidental and electrical in nature. A total of four adult occupants have been displaced as a result of the fire. Red Cross assistance was accepted.

One person was transported to an area hospital as a precaution. There were no reported firefighter injuries. Damages were estimated at $686,462.00.
