Introducing GO Alex!

In case you did not notice, we have made a change to our program name, look, and feel! The City of Alexandria would like to introduce – GO Alex – a program that provides residents, commuters and visitors with transportation resources. GO Alex will bring new life and new energy to the City’s many transportation options. GO Alex provides commuter assistance with walking, biking, riding the bus or rail, carpooling, vanpooling, and teleworking, as well as Guaranteed Ride Home.  In addition, GO Alex assists employers with creating customized commuter programs for their employees.

Celebrate the Holidays with DASH!

December is here and that means winter is upon us! For many less-fortunate families of Alexandria, warm clothes are a basic need that they cannot afford.

During this holiday season, let’s “Stuff the DASH Bus!” DASH will be out and about in our Celebration Bus collecting warm clothes, non-perishable food items and toys now until December 18. Your donations will be given to families in need in Alexandria through Volunteer Alexandria. Every donation, big or small, will help to benefit many of your Alexandria neighbors this holiday season.


December 10: Del Ray Farmer’s Market, Mt. Vernon and Oxford Ave. from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
December 17: King Street Trolley, City Hall Market Square from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Santa’s Coming to Town on the King Street Trolley

Where: Alexandria’s City Hall/Market Square, 301 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314 (On the King Street side)

When: Saturday, December 17

Time: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

All children will receive a special gift from Santa! Hop aboard the FREE King Street Trolley after your picture for some holiday shopping in Old Town.

Holiday Service Schedule 


Saturday, December 24, Christmas Eve: No DASH Service after 7 p.m.
Any trip that is scheduled to start at its first time point at 7 p.m., and prior, will operate in its entirety. Any trip that is scheduled to start at 7:01 p.m., and after, will not operate.

Sunday, December 25, Christmas Day: No DASH Service

Monday, December 26, Christmas Day Observed: DASH will operate a Sunday schedule

Monday, January 2, 2017: New Year’s Day Observed: DASH will operate a Sunday schedule

King Street Trolley

The King Street Trolley operates daily, including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, every 15 minutes, between the King Street Metrorail Station and the waterfront.

Sunday – Wednesday: 10 a.m. – 10:15 p.m.
Thursday – Saturday: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Mobile Store

Mobile Transit Store in December

The City’s Mobile Commuter Store provides one-stop shopping for Metro, VRE, MARC, and DASH fares with the convenience of flexible but consistent locations and times all around the City.   You can also purchase and load funds onto SmarTrip cards in addition to the popular Senior SmarTrip.

The New NH2 Metrobus Route

Metrobus has launched a new bus line — the NH2.  The route will operate every 30 minutes and serve King Street Metro, the Carlyle neighborhood, Eisenhower Avenue Metro, Huntington Metro, the Oxon Hill Park and Ride in Prince George’s County, the new MGM Casino, and National Harbor.  Each stop in Alexandria will offer connections to local bus service (DASH, Metrobus), shuttles, Metrorail, Virginia Railway Express (VRE), and Amtrak.

Capital Bikeshare Updates

New 15-dock Capital Bikeshare station installed at Madison and Fairfax (United Way)

The City installed a 15-dock bikeshare station at the United Way building at Madison Street and Fairfax Street in Old Town. A partnership between the City of Alexandria and United Way — who provided right-of-way for the station — made the location possible. There are now 31 Capital Bikeshare stations throughout Alexandria.

New key dispensing terminal for the Capital Bikeshare station at Braddock Rd. Metro Station

A new key-dispensing kiosk has replaced the Capital Bikeshare kiosk at the Braddock Rd. Metrorail Station. The new kiosks allow users to purchase Capital Bikeshare key fobs along with their membership directly from the station, making future trips seamless. Members who register online can also pick up key fobs from these kiosks. There are now 11 key-dispensing kiosks in Alexandria.
