The City of Alexandria and local law firm MercerTrigiani are sponsoring a series of training workshops in 2017 related to condominium and other community associations. The goals for these workshops include educating first-time homebuyers about the structure and governance of condominium communities; helping communities understand fair housing law related to community association management; and strengthening the knowledge of community board members in understanding, managing and amending governing documents.
The first workshop, Community Association Basics, is intended to serve those who may be considering purchasing a home in a condominium community. This session will be held on Saturday, February 4, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Pavilion at Mark Center, 5708 Merton Court. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and refreshments will be available. The workshop is offered at no cost to participants, but pre-registration is requested. Free parking is available at the training site. Condominiums have traditionally been the most affordable homeownership housing option for first-time homebuyers in the City of Alexandria. Recognizing the importance of the City’s condominium communities in preserving the City’s economic and social diversity, the City hopes to broaden awareness of community association management in hopes of strengthening and preserving these resources for the future.
