Public Hearing: 72-hour On-Street Parking Rule | News Release | City of Alexandria

screen-shot-2016-12-12-at-2-33-31-pmThe City of Alexandria invites the public to provide comments on the 72-hour on-street parking rule (City Code Section 10-4-8) during the March 27, Traffic and Parking Board hearing. This rule prohibits vehicles from parking within the public right-of-way for more than 72 hours on all city streets including residential districts and unrestricted streets.

While the rule promotes parking availability for all drivers, it can pose a challenge for residents who travel or don’t drive to work.  Since the rule is usually enforced via citizen reports, it can also foster conflict between neighbors.

The Board will review language for a Code amendment on the rule. If approved by City Council, this amendment will establish an exemption system. To learn more about the proposal, please see the March Traffic and Parking Board docket.
