Celebrating 12 years of independent film from around the world, the Alexandria Film Festival offers an enriching cinematic opportunity for filmmakers and film lovers alike by bringing high quality, diverse and thought-provoking films to Alexandria, Virginia. The 12th anniversary Alexandria Film Festival will be held November 10-13, 2016.
For our 12th year, we are looking for independent films that invoke the follow characteristics:
- Local, national and international films
- Films that focus on sustainability
- Comedy and satire
- Children and family-friendly
- Health, science, and technology
- Politics and public policy
- Science fiction and fantasy
- Social justice and equality
- American history
Filmmakers are encouraged to interpret these categories broadly. The Alexandria Film Festival welcomes all submissions. Please note we accept Vimeo submissions, but you must submit a link with your submission.

The Alexandria Film Festival brings high-quality short and feature length films, documentaries, filmmaker panels, and arts presentations to the historic port city of Alexandria, Virginia. The festival is an intimate four-day celebration of film in historic Alexandria, located a few miles from Washington, DC. The festival highlights the talents of local, national, and international filmmakers. Alexandria is home to a diverse group of film producers and enthusiasts, arts patrons, members of Congress and their staff, corporate executives, and a large number of culturally-minded individuals. The city attracts many visitors and residents of the Washington metropolitan area who value its arts and history community. The Alexandria Film Festival proudly promotes and supports the artistry of filmmakers to provide an engaging viewer experience.
The Alexandria Film Festival is helping to support a very special event on Sunday, April 22, 2018. The 48 Hour Film Project is hosting al DC 48 Hour Screening and team build mixer event at the Evening Star Cafe @5:30-8:00pm. This is a great networking event for local filmmakers to attend!
