Route 1 South Housing Affordability Strategy Upcoming Community Events
For immediate release: April 26, 2018
In January, the City initiated a planning effort focusing on the Route 1 area south of Duke Street to explore options and tools for preserving the neighborhood’s housing affordability. Community members are invited to participate in the following upcoming events related to the planning process:
- Wednesday, May 2, 6:30 to 9 p.m.: Community Open House and Meeting at the Lee Center (Exhibit Hall), 1108 Jefferson St. The open house will feature a light dinner and will be held from 6:30 to 7 p.m. for questions one on one with staff. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. with a presentation followed by community discussion. This event will be live streamed and can be accessed at alexandriava.gov/Planning.
Dinner, childcare and interpretation services (Spanish and Amharic) will be provided. A shuttle service from the neighborhood to the Lee Center will also be provided upon request – please contact Graciela Moreno, 703.746.3808 for further information or to sign up for the shuttle.
- Wednesday, May 16, 7 p.m.: Transportation Commission Briefing at City Hall, 301 King St.
Also, in response to community feedback during and since the charrette, we have extended the schedule to September. Under the new schedule, the draft plan strategy will go to Planning Commission and City Council Public Hearings in September, with additional community meetings and briefings in May and June. You can find this revised schedule on the project web page or by clicking here.
