WasteSmart Strategic Plan – We Need Your Feedback

Feedback Form

The T&ES Resource Recovery Division is leading the creation and implementation of the WasteSmart strategic plan and is seeking public input on the process.  This feedback form should take less than five minutes to complete, and your responses are completely anonymous. The City will review all suggestions and prioritize incorporating feedback into the strategic plan based on feasibility and available funding.

Community Open House, October 18

On Thursday, October 18, the public is invited to attend the WasteSmart Strategic Plan Open House Forum from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at City Hall Room 2000. The Resource Recovery Division will present the draft strategic plan and the findings and recommendations of the City’s consultant, HDR Inc. Close the Loop: Buy products with recycled content
When shopping for clothing and footwear, consider buying items with recycled content.  Companies that specialize in adventure and travel clothing have been innovative about using recycled materials in their products. Patagonia, North Face, and REI are some of the brands that you might investigate.
Recycling Your Packing Materials
There are many materials that you may use during a move that can be recycled after you’ve unpacked by simply putting them in the recycling cart and set out on your regular collection day. For cardboard boxes, please remove all shipping materials, flatten, and place boxes in your recycling cart or next to it if they do not fit.  Plastic wrap can be included with plastic grocery bags and recycled at your local grocery store.  For more information, visit alexandriava.gov/ResourceRecovery.
Recycling: If you’re not sure, throw it away as trash
We all want to do our part and recycle as much as we can, but some packaging and containers are not recyclable at this time.  Unless you are sure that an item is acceptable in the City’s recycling program, it is best to throw it away as trash.  Unacceptable items mixed with recyclables take a lot of effort to remove.  Take a little time and investigate what is acceptable in the City’s recycling program.  For a list of acceptable items visit alexandriava.gov/Recycling
