Getting a little sad that we’re in the middle of Downton Abbey’s final season? With only a few weeks left of — dare I say — one of the best television programs of all time, fans may be getting a little anxious waiting to see how everything will turn out for all the characters they’ve invested in over the past six seasons.

And while we tune-in each week to see how Julian Fellows is going to wrap-up the series we can also taste a little Downton Abby, right here, in Old Town. As you may know, Downton Abby is filmed at Highclere Castle in Hampshire England. What you may not know is that George Herbert, the 8th Earl of Carnarvon, is the current possessor of Highclere and he his also is a direct descendent of Philip Fendall — the Lee-Fendall Houses’ original owner.

The folks over at Lee-Fendall were inspired by their “Downton Abby” link and came-up with a tea and a tour to celebrate the connection . . .

Downton Abby Tour

During the special Downton Abby themed tours participants will learn of the connections between the world of Downton Abby’s characters and places and those of the Lee-Fendall House. Participants also get a rare glimpse of the servants’ wing at Lee-Fendall — an area not normally open on public tours.

Tours are at 11:00a.m. on January 30, February 13, and February 27.

Advance purchase tickets available for $10 through the online store. Tickets the day of the tour are $12. Tickets are free for members.

Downton Abby Tea

Lee-Fendall has special Downton Abby themed teas. Enjoy a traditional tea and a private tour of the Lee Fendall House as your guide compares the people and places of Downton with Lee-Fendall. Participants also get a rare glimpse of the servants’ wing which includes the kitchen — complete with service bells — as well as other areas not regularly seen on tour.

The tea is available to small groups (5-25 people) and lasts 2-3 hours. The fee is $50 per person. To inquire you can call 703.548.1789 or email contact@leefendallhouse.org.

The finale of the Masterpiece Classic, Downton Abby, airs on PBS in America Sunday, March, 6th at 9 o’clock eastern. The Lee-Fendall House is located at 614 Oronoco Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.
